Staying on Top of Sheep Records
Balancing a full-time job alongside a growing flock isn’t always easy, but for Cornwall sheep keeper Trafford Watters, technology has helped make it manageable.
Based on the Lizard Peninsula in West Cornwall, Trafford originally started with a couple of breeding ewes to help manage grazing for his horses. Fast forward a few years, and what began as a small side project has grown into a shared flock of pedigree sheep alongside iLivestock team member Sarah Pennington.
Using iLivestock’s Fresh Farmer Scheme, Trafford says the app has helped him save time on medication records, movements, weighing and breeding decisions — all while fitting sheep farming around a busy nine-to-five career as an estate agent.
“It cuts down on work and there are just so many benefits!” says Trafford.
From simplifying APHA inspections to managing pedigree tupping groups and tracking breeding traits, Trafford now relies on iLivestock daily to stay organised and compliant.
